Mission Statement
The School Library Media Program provides print and digital resources and services that assist students in pursuing ideas and information as they strive to become critical and creative thinkers. The program teaches information literacy skills through direct instruction and hands-on learning experiences. The program encourages students to become lifelong readers by maintaining a diverse collection of print materials and sponsoring reading incentive programs. The Library Media Center assists faculty and staff with the development and implementation of curriculum.
Vision Statement
The Roland Park Elementary/Middle School Library Media Center (LMC) is dedicated to the promotion of information literacy, lifelong learning and recreational reading. The librarian collaborates with classroom teachers to develop the related skills of all students.
The LMC functions as a hub of the school, with regular visits from elementary classes and teachers, and flexibly scheduled use by middle school classes, individual students and teachers. The Center is open during all school hours, and before and after school. Teachers and students can expect assistance from the librarian with selecting and using library materials. The LMC on-line catalog can be accessed by the entire school community on and off-site.
Resources are kept current and are supportive of the BCPS curriculum. There is a wide-range of materials selected to appeal to all grade and reading levels. Reading, writing and inquiry are promoted by reading incentive programs, book fairs, reading clubs, author visits and field trips. The warm, interesting and attractive environment of the library welcomes students, parents and faculty who enjoy using the facility.
Currently, the library has sufficient technological capability to enable teachers to bring in entire classes for Internet research, and for students to work individually during and after school. We anticipate several technological upgrades in the near future.
